ABOUT US

Origins of Taste

Taste was born in 2018 on the island of Isla Mujeres. After a foodie visited the island on a day trip from Cancun and was drawn in by its local charm, they launched the original Taste website, Taste of Isla. What began as a simple platform to support street vendors and small businesses soon evolved into a trusted guide to the island’s taco stands and lesser-known culinary finds. The founder started by offering free marketing to small businesses with limited exposure, gradually building an extensive guide for both locals and visitors.

As Taste of Isla grew, so did its scope, expanding to include not only food spots but also tours, accommodations, services, beach clubs, and more. With a small, dedicated team and a passion for connecting people to authentic experiences, the concept naturally expanded beyond Isla Mujeres. What started as a food-focused passion project has now become a wider platform celebrating the flavors and offerings of towns across the Yucatan Peninsula.

Today, Taste includes guides for Isla Mujeres, El Cuyo, Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Valladolid, Merida, and Bacalar, with new destinations always in the works.

Why Are We Doing This?

The Taste team is all about creating unforgettable food-focused experiences, whether that means pointing travelers to a favorite seafood restaurant or introducing them to a tucked-away restaurant run by a local family. We’re committed to supporting small, independent businesses and helping turn creative ideas into something real. Many of these businesses across the Yucatan Peninsula don’t have the resources to build a strong online presence, and that’s where we come in.

Since launching, Taste has grown into a multifaceted platform. Beyond restaurants and street food, we now spotlight bars, boutiques, beach clubs, unique tours, and local experiences. On the original site Taste of Isla, we even introduced Isla Mujeres’ first online shop featuring handcrafted items and artwork from local makers, bringing a piece of the island to people everywhere.

Our mission is to support local creativity, foster meaningful connections, and offer a platform where businesses can shine, while giving travelers trusted tools to explore each destination with ease.

Where Are We Going?

As Taste expands, our mission stays the same: to connect travelers with local businesses and provide real, useful tips that make every trip more rewarding. What began as a simple website has become a trusted travel companion across Isla Mujeres, El Cuyo, Cancun, Valladolid, Puerto Morelos, Merida, Bacalar, and now Isla Holbox.

By working directly with small businesses, we offer insider recommendations on where to eat, what to do, and how to make the most of your time in each town. And we’re just getting started, Taste is growing to include even more destinations throughout the Yucatan Peninsula. Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning to explore more, our goal is to make the journey easier, more meaningful, and full of unforgettable moments.
